After a ton of research we wound up buying a Grand Design Momentum 399TH! Here is the lowdown on the rig itself and what we love about it!

There was a day I remember asking Christie “are you all in”?
She said “all in on what”?
Me: “All in on going full time”?
She: “Absolutely”!
Me: “Good … because I am going to begin acting like we are going full time”!

And so the hunt began! One of the primary tasks that lay ahead of us was deciding on what rig was going to be the one we would be living, traveling and working in moving forward. Here are some of the key criteria we listed as being important considerations!
- Choosing a manufacturer … they are not all created equal!
- Choosing a dealer … they are not all created equal!
- Choosing a floor plan … there are 100’s of them out there to choose from!
- Class A, Class C, Travel Trailer or 5th Wheel?
- We needed office space because we saw both of us continuing to work!
- We wanted as much living space as possible!

We have estimated that we went up and down the stairs of 100+ rigs looking for what we wanted, comparing floor plans and looking at all of the amenities today’s modern RV’s have to offer. To say that we did our “due diligence” is an understatement. Consequently when we did finally pull the trigger and order it we were confident that we had chosen the right rig, from the right dealer and the right manufacturer.

So, some things about this “big girl” as a lot of people refer to her! Again, it is a Grand Design (manufacturer) Momentum (product line) 399TH (toy hauler) purchased and ordered through Crestview RV in Buda, Texas. The process we went through is a subject of an upcoming blog post. We ordered her in late September of 2019 and she arrived mid November of the same year. Here is the spec sheet for the rig …

Some of the things we added or that we get asked about often:
- We did order the Full Body Paint (FBP) and would absolutely do it again! We love it.
- We added the Onan 5500 Generator and are glad we did as well!
- Third AC added to the garage since it is our office.
- Heat pump added to the AC in the main room.
- We went with a queen size bed and don’t regret it. I am 6’4″ and Christie is 5’10” yet the queen bed is plenty big and … we have enough room to walk around it to make up the bed!
- We ordered a Reese GooseBox to replace the Morryde kingpin and would absolutely do that again! Financially it was a wash.
- 4 season doors for the garage!
What were the deciding factors for choosing this particular floor plan?

- The garage space converted to an office … thanks Chad and Tara at Changing Lanes for the inspiration!
- The opposing slides in the living area combined with the sliding glass doors out onto the side patio gave the living space a much bigger feel!
- The back and side porches provided extra living space!
- Tons and tons of storage in the primary living space!
- A large full bath in the front, with a large shower, and the half bath in the office.
- The loft provided even more storage!
- The queen sized bed in the garage, when raised to the roof, was out of the way of the office conversion yet provided additional living space for guests!

Know this! There is no “perfect rig” that will 100% be exactly what you are looking for but, if you do your homework, take your time and be clear about what you want you can get darn close. Then the rest is making minor tweaks and adjustments to make that floor plan work for you!
