How To Avoid Hating Your Dealer When the Inevitable Problems With Your Rig Arise!
Jim Jacobus
After reading yet another post about a multitude of things going wrong with a rig and the dealer not being responsive In getting It repaired I thought I would share some thoughts/tips that might help. Especially for those that joined the group because you are in the process of buying a new rig.
- Research your potential purchase brand, floor plan and dealer by checking out their Google reviews! Weed out the wackadoodles and look for consistent complaints from people that don’t sound crazy!

- Research your potential purchase brand, floor plan and dealer via Facebook groups. Every brand and almost every floor plan now has a Facebook group you can check out to see what is being said.
- Hire a qualified RV inspector to go over the rig before you sign the paperwork and haul It off of the lot! Insist everything be repaired before you take her home! You will find the dealer far more responsive before they have your money than after. NOTE: I really like Todd henson and the folks at RVTA. That said, always take the time to make sure your RV Inspector has the background and experience to do a great job for you!

- Find a reputable and qualified Mobile RV service In your area to handle as many repairs as possible! Bonus points If they are qualified to do warranty work! I would rather pay a mobile tech $200 out of my own pocket to do warranty work than to have my rig sit on my dealer’s lot for months and not be able to use it! The good news here Is that Grand Design will normally approve these repairs when appropriate!
- Understand the current market conditions, supply chain Issues, labor shortages, parts shortages and all that goes In to getting a rig repaired these days. All of these things effect how long It will take your dealer to get a repair done. It will help keep expectations in check and within reason!

Hope this helps someone!
