We get asked all of the time what is it like living full time in our Grand Design Momentum? We always answer the same way … living in an RV full time is not for everyone! But for those who embrace it, like us, the lifestyle can be incredibly rewarding.
Here are five benefits we have found to living in an RV full time:
- Freedom and Flexibility
One of the biggest advantages we find of living in an RV full time is the freedom it affords. As long as you have a place to park your RV, you can go anywhere you want, whenever you want. You can explore new places, meet new people, and have experiences you would never have had if you were tied down to a traditional home.

Living in an RV also gives you flexibility. You can change your plans at a moment’s notice, which we have done from time to time. And we don’t have to worry about being tied down to a mortgage or a long-term lease. If you don’t like a particular area or you’re ready for a change, you can simply pack up and move on.
We particularly love the idea that we can “chase the weather”! Meaning, when it is cold we like to spend our time in warmer South Texas. When it is hot in Texas we can retreat to cooler temps in places like Colorado!
- Cost Savings
If you plan well and do things right living in an RV full time can be much less expensive than living in a traditional home. We don’t have to pay property taxes, and our utility bills are typically much lower. We also don’t have to worry about maintenance costs associated with a traditional home.

Many RV parks and campgrounds offer affordable rates, and some even offer long-term stays. This can help keep your living expenses down, giving you more money to save or spend on travel and experiences.
- Minimalism and Simplification
One of the surprising benefits we found was living in an RV full time required us to downsize and simplify our life. You can’t bring everything with you, so you have to be selective about what you pack. This can be difficult to start with but can become a liberating experience, as you realize that you don’t need as much as you thought you did. We found ourselves asking … “why do we have four of these? Why do we even have one of this thing”!

Another surprising benefit of living in an RV also means we have to be mindful of our energy and water usage. This has helped us become more aware of our impact on the environment and encouraged us to live a more sustainable lifestyle. Considering the incredibly beautiful places we have seen we want to make sure and do our part!
- Community and Camaraderie
Living in an RV full time doesn’t mean you have to be alone. The primary RV parks and campgrounds we stay in have a strong sense of community, with regular social events and activities. Currently we are at Southern Oaks Luxury RV Resort in Aransas Pass, Texas and there are 3 or 4 things to do on the calendar each day! You can also connect with other RVers online, through the many RV driven social media platforms and forums.

Being part of an RV community can be incredibly rewarding, as you meet new people who share your love of travel and adventure. You can learn from each other, share stories and experiences, and form lasting friendships.
- Adventure and Exploration
If you choose to live in an RV full time you can travel and explore at your own pace. You can visit national parks, historic sites, and other attractions or events on your own schedule, without having to worry about rushing back to a traditional home.
Living in an RV also allows you to experience different cultures and ways of life. You can immerse yourself in local communities, try new foods, and learn about different customs and traditions.

So, as we began we will end by telling you that living in a RV isn’t for everyone but we love it! living in an RV full time can, and has been for us, be an incredibly rewarding experience. It offers freedom, flexibility, cost savings, minimalism and simplification, community and camaraderie, and adventure and exploration. While it may not be for everyone, for those who embrace it, the RV lifestyle can be a dream come true.
